Rural and Native Housing

The Rural and Native Housing Program, established by the federal government under CMHC guidelines, was created to provide affordable, safe, and culturally appropriate rental and homeownership options for low-income, off-reserve Indigenous and non-Indigenous households in rural, remote, and small communities (populations of 2,500 or less).

In 2007, CMHC transferred the program to the Province of British Columbia under BC Housing.

In 2013, KNHS acquired 98 units. Today, KNHS owns 92 properties across the Thompson, Okanagan, and Kootenay regions of BC.

While there is no longer dedicated government funding for these units, KNHS continues to provide affordable, comfortable, and safe housing in these rural communities.
